Tesla owners are once again topping a boring statistic. According to an annual American study, Tesla drivers are the worst in traffic.
Tesla owners have once again been named the worst drivers on the road. A study shows that Tesla drivers are the worst drivers in the United States.
According to insurance data collected by the American company Lendingtree , Tesla tops the list of car brands with the worst drivers.
In the period from January to December 2024, 36.94 incidents were recorded per 1,000 Tesla drivers. The incidents included in the calculation cover traffic accidents, drunk driving and speeding.
The figure is the highest among all car brands surveyed and an increase from 31.93 accidents per 1,000 drivers in 2023.
RAM owners come in second with 33.92 incidents per 1,000 drivers, followed by Subaru owners with 32.85 incidents per 1,000 drivers. It's worth noting that Tesla owners were and are the worst on the roads in 11 states, while RAM owners were the worst on the roads in 16 states.
The study also shows that many Tesla owners misuse the cars' driver assistance systems, Autopilot and FSD.
Drivers generally believe that Tesla models are self-driving, even though the brand's systems in no way make the cars self-driving.
Misunderstandings about the technology's capabilities have already had tragic consequences. Last year, a motorcyclist in the US died when he was hit by a Tesla whose driver believed the car could drive itself.
Despite these challenges, Tesla's electric cars have a high level of safety, achieving 5 out of 5 stars in Euro NCAP tests. However, it is clear that driver behavior poses a significant risk on the roads.
