Old BMW could become the world's most expensive car ever

The car has just visited Denmark. And if the Andy Warhol-painted BMW M1 from 1979 were for sale, it would be the world's most expensive car, according to valuation experts.

Andy Warhol is no longer here. But the BMW M1 he painted in 1979 may become the world's most expensive car ever.

That is, if it was for sale. Which it is not. But if and if, then the car, which is owned by BMW and is part of the collection at home in Munich, would perhaps be the world's most expensive car.

Anders Bilidt, who is a Car Specialist at RM Sotheby's, who also sold the world's most expensive car to date in 2022, thinks so in an interview with Motor magazine .

Actually, Anders Bilidt is simply repeating his position after the sale of the extremely rare Mercedes-Benz Uhlenhaut Coupé. Namely that the BMW from 1979 can knock the Mercedes off the throne.

Incidentally, it is not known who paid the other side of 1 billion kroner for the Mercedes model in 2022. However, Mercedes has already told what the money will be used for. Read more about it here.

– The Warhol BMW belongs to BMW after all. And it is not for sale. Meen. If any car in the whole world is one day sold for a higher price than Uhlenhaut's Mercedes, it could very well be the Warhol car, says Anders Bilidt to the media.

In general, it is said that cars are an extremely bad investment. Of which a Fisker Ocean, losing 69 percent of its value in just two months, is a frighteningly 'good' example. And a Porsche Taycan, which plummets with a quarter of a million kroner, just emphasizes.

But there are cars that are the exact opposite. There is a long way between them, but they are there. Another good example is the price of the just 36 editions of the Ferrari 250 GTO that the factory in Maranello ever built.

Most recently, one of the cars was sold for DKK 360 million at an auction in New York. It happened back in November 2023.
