Trump praises Tesla and Musk in front of the White House – and promises to buy one himself

A row of Tesla cars parked in front of the White House stole the spotlight when Trump suddenly declared his love for Elon Musk's electric cars – and ordered one himself.

Tuesday was a remarkable day in front of the White House.

A row of Tesla cars lined up in front of the building while President Donald Trump, along with Elon Musk, announced big news: Tesla will double its production in the United States within the next two years.

Musk called the decision "a declaration of faith for America" and praised Trump's policies for making the investment possible.

But it was the president's spontaneous reaction that really got attention.

Trump: "I'm buying a Tesla!"

As reporters asked questions about, among other things, the upcoming ceasefire agreement with Ukraine, Trump turned to Musk, patted one of the cars and said: "I'm buying a Tesla! These cars are amazing, and Elon is an incredible guy."

The remarks come at a time when Musk is a controversial figure in American politics. His support for Trump has caused a stir, and several Tesla owners have publicly stated that they will sell their cars in protest. But Trump does not seem to care about the critical rhetoric.

"I support people who believe in America, and Elon does. I don't have a short electric car, but I think this will be the first," the president said, pointing to a Tesla Cybertruck.

Elon Musk in the center

Musk, who has been an active supporter of the Trump administration, stood next to the president and smiled broadly.

His company has experienced huge price drops on the stock market in recent months, but after Tuesday's fashion, Tesla shares rose again by almost 5% .

"We look forward to delivering many more cars to Americans," Musk said, thanking Trump for creating a good business climate.

Whether Trump will actually get his Tesla delivered remains to be seen. But the scene in front of the White House – with a row of Tesla cars and a president spontaneously promising to buy one – is further proof that anything can happen in American politics.
