More than every second Swede replaces the electric car with petrol

Like the Germans, the Swedes are going back to petrol cars. At least when the electric car is used. In Sweden, this applies to more than half of the drivers.

A new Swedish survey by the analysis company Vroom shows that a significant proportion of Swedish drivers who previously owned a used electric car choose to go back to petrol cars when they change cars.

The survey, which maps the behavior of car buyers, reveals a significant difference in loyalty between buyers of new and used electric cars.

Among the Swedish drivers who bought a used electric car, 56 percent switched to another type of car. 37 percent of these chose a petrol or diesel car, while 16 percent bought a plug-in hybrid. 44 percent remained loyal to electric cars.

– The fact that loyalty is increasing and that 6 out of 10 choose to stay in the rechargeable market is supported by a growing selection on the used market, where several electric car models in different price ranges are available. The sale of used electric cars from the car trade increased by 80 percent in the period, which corresponds to approximately 16,000 more cars, according to Vroom in the survey .

Buyers of new electric cars show a much higher degree of loyalty. 85 percent of those who previously owned a new electric car choose an electric car again. However, this is a slight decrease from 87 percent the year before. 7 percent switched to a plug-in hybrid and 7 percent chose a gasoline car.

– In summary, we can state that loyalty for rechargeable cars is very high despite a very tough economic climate and high price level for electric cars. Among new car buyers, more than 9 out of 10 will again choose a new rechargeable car, says Ulf Roberts-Jones, managing director of Vroom.

According to Vroom, the lower loyalty among buyers of used electric cars is due to the fact that this group is more price sensitive and prioritizes a good deal over the type of car.

– This may also be due to the fact that the supply of fossil-fuel cars is greater than the supply of rechargeable cars on the used market.

– Regardless of the reason for the lower loyalty on the used market, we expect a continued increase in loyalty for used electric cars, as the used market fills up with more rechargeable options in different price ranges, states Vroom.

The picture is the same in Germany. Here, Boosted was recently able to report that every third motorist, after trying an electric car, switches back to something with a combustion engine. Read more about it here .
