Toyota now sells the armored Corolla with a 10-year warranty

Over 39,000 murders a year now make the Brazilian Toyota importer make the armored Corolla part of the model range.

Every day more than 106 people are killed in Brazil. Now the country's Toyota importer is trying to shield its customers by offering armored versions of the Corolla.

The Hilux and the SUV SW4 can also get the same treatment if the Brazilian drivers put the right ticks on the optional equipment list.

Toyota does not armor cars themselves, but lets several national companies specializing in this type of security take care of the task before the cars are delivered.

The Brazilian importer writes this himself on the brand's website.

Toyota is even offering existing customers that their cars can become rolling defenses. The cars must not be older than year 2020. The importer does not state why the cut-off date is set at that model year.

Toyota also does not want to say how much a new armored car – or an upgrade of an up to 4-year-old car – costs. But the brand would like to say that the work is covered by between 5 and 10 years warranty. Depending on how much has been done on the individual car.

The Japanese car brand also states that the hood on the cars is made in such a way that it e.g. repels bullets from small handguns as well as blows from ball wood and metal clubs.

Toyota is neither the first nor the last with this kind of service. Brands such as Mercedes and BMW have specialized for years in producing cars with an ultra-high level of safety for society leaders and VIP customers in general.

Audi does the same with the special model A8 L Security. The car weighs close to 4 tons, costs 800,000 dollars and takes between 3 and 6 months to manufacture.
