So many cars have been impounded for speeding in 3 years

In three years, almost 3,000 motorists have had to say goodbye to both their driver's license and their car because they have been taken for speeding.

It has been three years since the grip on the worst drivers on the roads was tightened enormously with the introduction of the law on crazy traffic.

With the law in hand, the country's police forces have been able to seize 2,966 cars. This is shown by a report from the National Police.

This is stated by the Ministry of Justice in a press release .

– We can see from the number of seizures that the tightening has been absolutely necessary. But we are not there yet. It also requires a change in behaviour.

– Therefore, I also hope that the rules have a deterrent effect.

– So people think twice, because they step on the accelerator, get into the car under the influence or otherwise put others at risk with their reckless driving. The government will constantly look at the possibility of intensifying the efforts against the carousel of madness.

Frenzied traffic covers everything from drunk driving to excessively high speeds. But already in 2022, the police said that they actually take the most crazy drivers among those who have had too much within the vest.

However, the rules also crack down on illegal street racing or 'racing and racing', as it is called in legal terms.

The regulations on speed bumps mean that the system doesn't really care who owns the car. Therefore, car owners who are not behind the wheel can also lose their cars at the expense of the law.

It has so far happened to several leasing companies, and recently a woman had to hand in the license card for her Tesla, a month and a half after her son had been caught driving crazy in the car. Read more about it here.

Already in March last year, the government announced that it will further tighten the rules for crazy driving. Or at least look at the possibilities for it. Read more about it here .
