Mercedes confirms: He replaces Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton is past this season at Mercedes. But only now has a name been given to the Briton's replacement. It will be a very young Italian.

At long last, Lewis Hamilton's replacement at Mercedes has been named. It will be a very young Italian who takes over from the 7-time world champion.

This is confirmed by Mercedes' Formula 1 team, which must see Hamilton switch to Ferrari, in a press release .

Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who is just 18 years old, also smashed his future teammate George Russell's racer during the first practice for this weekend's Grand Prix at the Monza circuit in Italy.

The contract with Mercedes has probably already been signed before then. And with team manager Toto Wolf, there is not much trembling on the hand either.

– We are excited about what George and Kimi can contribute to the team both as individual dancers, but also as colleagues.

– Our new line-up is perfect to open the next chapter in our history. It is also a testament to the strength of our junior program and our belief in homegrown talent.

However, Mercedes has no greater faith in Antonelli than the fact that the length of the contract with the 18-year-old Italian is not mentioned.

In fact, Mercedes will say nothing more than that Antonelli will sing for them in 2025. This suggests that the team has secured the right to throw the young man out of the garage if he does not do well enough soon enough.
