Protruding license plates banned after 5 years

A motorist has been asked to hand over his desired license plate because the authorities have found that the text in mirror image is perceived as offensive.

A seemingly innocent license plate has been withdrawn by authorities in the US state because it is considered objectionable.

This is what UniLad writes.

The case concerns a Lamborghini owner who had paid for a custom license plate with the text '370H55V'. However, the license plate was subsequently cancelled by the Texas Motor Vehicle Office because it could be perceived as offensive.

If you're wondering how such a seemingly harmless license plate could be considered offensive, you're not alone.

Nevertheless, that is exactly what happened with the license plate in the Texas case. Safer Hassan, who owned the license plate, had had it on his Lamborghini for several months before he received a letter from the authorities.

The letter stated that it had been assessed that the requested license plate was valid, even though the authorities had actually approved it.

Hassan was then given 30 days to change the license plate or it would become invalid. News of the withdrawn license plate spread. And it has already raised more questions than answers.

There's a video on YouTube about Hassan's case. And the comments are mostly on the driver's side – that license plate is not legit.

Several people thought it was a waste of time and resources to focus on such a matter. One YouTube user wrote, among other things: If you have to tell us it's offensive, then it's not offensive.

Another writes that the motor office was obviously staffed by former "half-brains". A third person rushed to the keys saying that he had not even perceived the license plate as anything special. and certainly not that it is striking.

Many agreed that it was difficult to see what was supposed to be striking about the license plate. It turns out that the striking thing about the license plate lies in how it can be read. But that requires turning the text upside down.

The license plate could be read upside down as a specific English word. Hassan himself claimed that he had not even noticed it.

On YouTube, there was also speculation about who would even have the idea to read license plates upside down.

One person commented that it looked like it was a "Karen" who had discovered it. In an interview with local television station KPRC2, Hassan said that he had had the license plate on other cars for more than three years without any problems.

He also said that most people didn't understand the hidden meaning of the license plate. Even his closest friends didn't know.

Hassan also believes that in this case the state is far exceeding its powers as an authority. But a spokesman for the motor vehicle office makes it clear that they only react to the license plate because other drivers have reacted to it.

Among the things that are not allowed on license plates in Texas are references to sex, profanity, and general discrimination.

If such a license plate is discovered, either before it is approved or in traffic, it will be banned. The case of the Texas license plate is not unique.

Back home, Lasse Markmoller Hansen had to wave goodbye to his license plate because it was causing problems for the police. Read more about that case here .
