New figures: Tesla Model Y is the world's most popular car

There is not much to discuss. According to a new report, the Tesla Model Y was by far the most popular car in the world last year.

Last year, Tesla almost couldn't send the cars onto the street fast enough. The Model Y in particular was wildly popular.

Here at home, the car smashed a 37-year-old sales record, which Opel then set with the next new Kadett E. Read more about it .

According to a new report from the analysis company Jato Dynamics, the Model Y was the conditional most popular electric car in 2023. And not just here at home, but all over the world.

There is even a nice distance down to the world's second most popular car. The model Toyota calls RAV4 – and in other markets Wildlander – sold 'only' 1.075 million copies.

Tesla sold 1.2 million Model Ys in the same period. After this, Honda sold 846,000 copies of the CR-V, which is also called Breeze. Enough for third place.

All car brands and models in the top 3 generally progressed in relation to sales in 2022. Tesla, however, by far the most, with a plus of a whopping 64 percent.

Jato Dynamics also produces very interesting statistics on the car brands and their model range. The analysts are, among other things, also came to the conclusion that, despite the sales success of the Model Y, Tesla has the world's second oldest model program. Read more about it here .

Latest new ones are price increases. In any case, Tesla has announced that from July 1 the price of a number of models will be increased because these are built in China, which the EU has this week imposed up to 38.7 percent punitive tariffs on.
