Cars with internal combustion engines will survive, says Aston Martin

As the latest in a long line of car brands, Aston Martin is now regretting its electric car plan. The focus must be on hybrids instead.

It is barely a year since Aston Martin entered into an agreement with American Lucid Motors on a common platform for electric cars.

The first cars were already supposed to be ready in 2025. But now the British brand is withdrawing those plans.

Autocar writes this on top of an interview with the chairman of the board Lawrence Stroll.

– We planned a launch at the end of 2025. And we were ready to do it. But it seems that there is a lot more hype about electric cars, politically driven or not, than what drivers are looking for, especially when it comes to Aston Martin's price point, says Stroll.

For the same reason, the brand is now adamant that the internal combustion engine will also be included in the next decade.

It is not more than three years ago that Aston Martin made a similar announcement. At the time, the brand thought that electric cars would probably come. They just weren't ready yet.

And now they are almost here. The cars are understood. But now it is customer demand that is causing the brand to step on the brakes.

However, Aston Martin is not alone in this. Ford, which Aston Martin was actually owned by between 1991 and 2007, is now also finding the brakes. In fact, for exactly the same reason. Namely that it makes more sense right now to focus on hybrid cars.

However, there are also brands that insist that electric cars are the only solution. At Alfa Romeo, they are particularly busy putting the internal combustion engine in the grave.

Unlike many of the competitors, however, the Italians refuse to take one thing in particular over to the electric models. Read more about it here .
