BMW has mistakenly had more than 1,100 cars built, which risk cracking in the chassis frame. The cars of the i4 type were built between March and April this year.
BMW in the US is now recalling 1,150 cars, which the brand believes may have been manufactured with a decisive fault in the chassis. The frame itself on the left side of the car can crack.
This is reported by several media – including the niche media BMW Blog.
The problem is that cracks can appear near where the chassis is riveted together. If cracks occur, it can weaken the car's resilience in the event of an accident.
According to BMW Blog, BMW emphasizes that the brand is not aware of or has been notified of any incidents or complaints due to the problem. Instead, the recall is based on a precautionary principle that must ensure the highest possible level of safety in all cars.

The recall applies to the BMW i4 eDrive40, BMW i4 xDrive40 and BMW i4 M50 xDrive models manufactured from March 7, 2024 to April 25, 2024. According to German Auto Motor und Sport, it is not yet known whether the fault on the chassis has affected electric cars other than the i4 , which has been sold in the US market.
BMW are not the only ones with faults on the factory line. Earlier this year, it emerged that Ford may have built up to 5,000 cars that cannot be repaired. Read more about it here.
Other times there are 'only' very extensive errors. Most recently, Tesla recalled 1.8 million cars due to a fault in the front luggage compartment, and at Honda last year they were nervous about lobbying for spare parts.
