Here the price of petrol plummets – Danes are waiting in long queues

Sweden has become the country in Western Europe where both petrol and diesel per liter is absolutely the cheapest. It gives long cows in several places.

It was not long ago that the Swedes rolled off the ferry or crossed the Øresund with almost empty tanks to pick up cheap petrol in Denmark or Germany.

That picture is now completely reversed. And now the Swedes themselves as well as tourists are standing in line at the country's gas stations in several places. The reason? The cheap fuel.

In fact, both petrol and diesel are now so 'cheap' in Sweden that it is not available cheaper elsewhere in Western Europe.

– I have noticed a very big difference since the price was lowered. In the morning there are cows even before I open, says Rasha at Shell on Strandgatan in Trelleborg to Swedish SVT .

Just on the other side of the Øresund, it is especially Danish number plates that take up a lot of space at the petrol stations. This is confirmed by the lessee of the Shell station in Lockarp, which is just on the other side of the bridge.

It is, among other things, the Swedish government's policy of lowering the tax on fuel both this year and next, causing prices to fall massively. And the government stands firm, even though the decision is subject to fierce criticism from the opposition

– It is a delivery on my part, on the part of the Christian Democrats. We must instead reach the emission targets through heavy industry, replies Ebba Busch (KD).

Although petrol is cheap in Sweden, it is far from being the cheapest in the world. Because while Swedes – and Danes who want to make the trip – pay a good 12 kroner per liter of petrol, the Iranians get it almost for free. At least seen through Danish eyes.

A liter of petrol in the Middle Eastern dictatorship costs just 19 Danish kroner for one liter of petrol. In Libya it is only a few ores more expensive, while the price in Venezuela is a quarter of a krone per litre.
