Tesla calls 10-month-old cars new – now the owners are angry

The Tesla effect appears to have subsided. A number of motorists have had 10-month-old cars delivered as 'factory new'.

– There will be no facelift this year. But Tesla improves the cars all the time, so even a six-month-newer car is slightly better.

This is how Tesla director Elon Musk defends the car brand's older Model Y on his own social media , X – the former Twitter.

And the world's richest man has probably not sat down with that message for no reason. A number of Tesla owners have not received the factory-new cars they ordered.

Instead, drivers say that Tesla has sold them up to 10-month-old cars as 'factory new'. According to Carup, the complaints come from a number of Swedish customers. However, others write that they have been delivered cars that are 'only a few weeks old' in the same period.

However, according to Motorbranschens Riksförbund, Tesla will not be in trouble for that reason. Sweden considers a car to be new if it has been built less than a year ago.

That is, as long as a facelift – or a completely new version – has not squeezed into the model range in the meantime. Here, the registration date therefore plays a minor role.

In comparison, the Danish authorities consider a car as new if it has less than 2,000 kilometers and is less than 4 years old.

There is currently no prospect of a new Model Y. At least not until 2025 at the earliest. However, Tesla is trying to offset the decline with ever-lower prices. This also benefits the Danes. At home, the brand now sells new cars under DKK 300,000. Read more about it here .
