22-year-old must serve 9 months in prison – short fault with 44 km/h

A 22-year-old has to go to prison for 9 months because, with both drugs and alcohol in his blood, he did 44 km/h on an electric lobe wheel. The verdict has been more than 2 years in the making.

A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to nine months in prison for having cards on an electric lobe wheel while under the influence of alcohol and cannabis in Linköping, Sweden.

The episode happened in the summer of 2022 and quickly has significant consequences for the young man, who, according to the Swedish newspaper Corren, must now serve his sentence.

During the incident, the 22-year-old was under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of 1.67 and was also under the influence of cannabis.

He was speeding on his electric lobe wheel through central Linköping, but at an intersection he was hit by a car after, according to a witness, a security guard, he speeded into the intersection without orienting himself.

The security guard, who witnessed the episode, described in questioning how:

– He didn't look right or left, but just hit the gas, and then he was hit. I lob down immediately after this.

As a result of the accident, the man had to be treated for several injuries, including wounds that required stitches and two broken bones.

The police also decided to confiscate the electric lobe wheel, which during a technical examination was measured to be able to drive up to 44 km/h. According to Swedish traffic regulations, such a speed requires a moped license, which the man did not have.

The trial against the 22-year-old was decided in the Linköping district court, where he was charged with several matters, including serious drunken driving, illegal driving, carelessness in traffic and minor drug offences.

However, the district court ended up convicting him of aggravated drunken driving and two cases of drugs, which in total resulted in a prison sentence of nine months.
