Warns the owners: "Electric cars are a breeding ground for pests"

Electric cars are good for mice and other pests. They simply love to gnaw on cables and other electronics, says the warning now from the insurance company If.

It is quite possible that the electric car owners will get rid of both registration tax and 'fuel' in the form of a refund on electricity from home.

But there is one thing they must pay particular attention to, says a warning from the insurance company If. Pests such as mice and other rodents love to chew through the cables in an electric car.

– Regardless of whether it is an electric car or an internal combustion car. So it is wise to be careful, says press manager Sigmund Clementz i If.

In 2020, it was so bad with this kind of damage to cars that the Norwegian branch of If renamed it the 'year of the mouse' due to rodent damage to cars and trucks.

At the time, the damages amounted to the equivalent of 4.4 million Danish kroner. And now If doesn't just believe but expects that electric car owners will be hit by the same plague.

– We have already started to get mice damage to cars because the mice move in when it is cold. Precautions should be taken to avoid rubbing damage to things like seats, wire insulation and vital parts of the car, says Clementz.

That is why insurance companies also advise drivers not to leave leftover food in their cars. Mice and other rodents love to board it, and they will do an incredible amount of damage to get there.

– Everything that can be food for mice must be removed. Clean the car well of chocolate, nuts and any food residues. Feel free to vacuum the car to remove even crumbs, says the press manager.

In addition, it can be a very good idea to acquire one or a few mouse traps that can be placed in the immediate vicinity of the car.

– It is obviously a good idea to set out a few mouse traps here and there in the garage or in winter storage. You can also buy electronic mouse hunters.

– These produce a high-frequency sound that should scare the pests away. However, some are more effective than others, he says.
