The municipality's parking proposal is fundamentally illegal, says FDM

In essence, it is only about ripping off motorists for even more money when Silkeborg Municipality wants to raise the price for parking, FDM believes.

The latest proposal to raise the hourly price and expand the payment area for parking in Silkeborg does not get many praises.

At least not from the interest organization FDM. The municipality has proposed to raise the current hourly price by DKK 5. From 15 to 20 kroner.

But the proposal is neither legal nor intended to do anything other than rip off drivers for money.

– It is crystal clear that this is about getting an extra million kroner in and nothing else, says chief consultant at FDM, Dennis Lange, to TV Midtvest .

It is not the first time that FDM is looking for a municipality that tries to draw money into the depleted municipal coffers by making it more expensive to park.

Both in Fredericia and on Bornholm, the municipalities have tried to get away with the illegal trick. And in December last year, the politicians in Helsingor tried exactly the same thing.Read more about it here .

Now the politicians in Silkeborg must reject the proposal in a city council fashion on 25 June. By raising the price for parking, the municipality will be able to close a hole in the municipal coffers of DKK 2.5 million. But motorists' money must not be used for that. Or not as a public body.

At Enhedslisten in Silkeborg city council, Peter Sig Kristensen believes 'absolutely not' that he or the other city leaders are after the drivers. Instead, he believes that it is about creating a 'less crowded urban environment'.
