The last remnant of Saab is approaching bankruptcy – everyone has been fired

NEVS, which bought the remains of Saab Automobile in 2011, is approaching bankruptcy. This Wednesday, the employees have been notified of layoffs.

NEVS, which was created on the remains of the car brand Saab in Trollhättan, is close to bankruptcy. The company's managing director, Nina Selander, stated on Wednesday that the remaining employees have been notified of the serious situation and that the closure is approaching.

– It wasn't a surprising announcement, but that doesn't make it any less difficult, says Nina Selander.

NEVS has been characterized by financial problems for a long time. Since February 2023, the company has been dormant. The decision made by its owner Chinese Evergrande Group, which itself has gone bankrupt.

In this connection, most employees were dismissed and all unnecessary costs were cut.

However, this has not been sufficient to ensure a solid economy. And NEVS now faces significant debt from the pandemic, including deferred AM contributions and other taxes in Sweden.

To try to alleviate the problems, the company has been selling assets while trying to establish new businesses.

Still, liquidity is now at a critically low level. According to NEVS, several binding agreements, including a potential deal with the Emily GT prototype , have fallen through. Something that has only put pressure on the economy even more.

– Unfortunately, binding agreements have not been fulfilled by more than one buyer, which has put NEVS in a situation where lack of time has forced the company to settle, which has meant that the future liquidity is at an overly critical level and at risk for bankruptcy, says a press release from NEVS.

The company is still trying to find a solution to avoid closure. Nina Selander emphasizes that dialogues have begun with both employees and possible partners in the attempt to find a way out of the problems.

At the same time, the director emphasizes that NEVS will do everything in the coming notice period to secure a future for the Emily GT project as well as the self-supporting chore toy PONS.

– Despite this, it is not our job to throw in the towel. Now we have several months to find solutions for the employees – even if it is under the auspices of others, says Nina Selander.
