Tesla takes car brand to court due to secrecy

A judge in the US state of California has ruled in favor of Tesla having to drag competitor Rivian to court due to secrecy.

Tesla has received the word of a Californian judge that the car brand must drag its competitor Rivian to court. The reason must be found all the way back in 2020.

Here, Rivian recruited quite a few current employees and former employees from Tesla in particular. According to Elon Musk and Co. however, Rivian also encouraged Tesla's former employees to gossip about the car brand's upcoming products, plans and other trade secrets.

Reuters writes that.

In his decision, the judge has not given Tesla the right to say that this is what Rivian did in 2020. But the judge believes that Tesla's lawyers have sufficient evidence for the trial to succeed.

Neither of the two car brands has wished to comment on the matter to Reuters. But it is far from the first time that Tesla has sued a competitor.

Way back in 2008, sparks flew between Tesla and Danish Henrik Fisker. Elon Musk believed that Fisker, who was hired to help with the design of the Model S, stole and used some of the ideas for his own projects afterwards.

On the whole, it is not unheard of for car brands to sue each other. For example, Audi has won several times over the Chinese Nio due to a little too much inspiration when it comes to model names. Read more about that case here .
