Special rule applies to car dealers from January 1, 2025

From January 1, 2025, certain car dealers in Denmark will ask potential customers for a signature with MitID for a test drive to prevent theft.

From January 1, 2025, car dealers in Denmark will have a new weapon in the fight against theft during test drives. The Danish company CarBuddii is launching a solution that requires MitID validation of all drivers who want to test drive a car.

CarBuddii, which specializes in software for the automotive industry, integrates MitID into digital waybills. This process ensures correct identification of the customer, reducing the risk of theft and other liability issues.

– Stolen cars during test drives are a challenge that car dealers face.

– With MitID validation on driving records, we offer a solution that both increases the security of the documentation and provides dealers with secure identification of the driver, says CarBuddii's sales director Clifford Dyhr, in a press release .

In addition to MitID validation, customers must present a valid driver's license and sign a digital declaration of allegiance that clarifies their responsibilities during the test drive.

"This ensures that the dealer has documentation of the customer's responsibility," says the sales director.

The entire process takes place digitally, which according to CarBuddii provides fast, secure and legally valid documentation.

CarBuddii has previously entered into a partnership with FTZ, which was announced in November. Thefts during test drives are unfortunately not a new phenomenon. Boosted has been able to report several of them.

And while businesses now have a better opportunity to know who they are handing over the keys to during a test drive, the same is far from the case for private individuals.

Brian Nielsson is one of the many unfortunate Danes who has had a car stolen in connection with what he thought was a real deal.

– I get out of the car, and just as I do, he slams the accelerator, Brian Nielsson told TV 2 Lorry in 2022, when his black Audi A4 Cabriolet disappeared. Read more about it here .
