Now Norway is angry that there are too many electric cars

In recent years, Norway has pumped billions of kroner into electric cars. But now it turns out that the cars get off the road cheaper. And then the politicians are angry.

In the Norwegian city of Bergen, the revenue from car traffic that the politicians have budgeted for is not collected. The reason? The electric cars.

And that has made a number of politicians very angry. Among those from the Progress Party. According to Bergens Tidende, the city's income from taxes will soon be halved.

This led to the fact that urban development councillor, the Progress Party's Christine Kahrs, already last winter suggested that the electric cars must pay much more in tax.

– I have announced that we will have a discussion about toll funding based on our future obligations, Kahrs tells the newspaper.

Bergen is also behind. The city has made an agreement with the state, which means that the taxpayers must finance a future light rail. Blue. in that it will cost an average of 14.7 Norwegian kroner in so-called tolls. In other words, driving on the individual sections of Norway's toll roads.

But figures from Bergen municipality show that they are far behind. On average, motorists pay 'just' 11.6 Norwegian kroner in tolls. In other words, over three kroner less than they would otherwise have to on average.

The lower tax average in Bergen has also caused the municipal opposition to criticize the councillor. Blue. the Green Party demands that the money come in.

Because even if there is nothing the money should be spent on right now, motorists must pay for future projects already now, says Thor Haakon Bakke of the Environmental Party.

On a national level, the Norwegians are also about to have had enough of electric cars. At least because of the fact that the cars are almost free to roam around the traffic.

Because even though the finance minister had to clarify earlier this year that the country will not ban everything other than electric cars already from 1 January 2025, motorists still have to pay more. Read more about it here .
