New theft scandal hits Denmark – goes beyond all electric cars

The Swedes are already bothered by it, and now thieves have also started to cut cables on Danish charging stations in the middle of the night.

An otherwise Swedish phenomenon has spread to large parts of Jutland. Thieves have started to cut cables to public charging stations.

– It is very unfortunate. Because it's high season for car traffic, so this affects a lot of electric drivers, says Anne Petersson, head of business support at the charging operator Mer, to the newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad.

Back in July, Boosted was able to tell how Swedish charging operators are affected by the problem. And now it has spread to Denmark.

This is written by TV Syd .

According to the media, charging cables have been cut everywhere from Nordborg on Als to Horsens. And in the latter city you have actually experienced that kind of vandalism/theft too.

At the energy company E.on, it is reported that nine cases of cut charging cables have been registered in the southern and southern Jutland area. Norlys says that it is 'about a handful' of thefts, and at Clever there are three cases.

In Sweden, the thieves, as Boosted has previously described, look for the copper content in the cables of the charging stations. But if the same is the case in Denmark, at least Clever wonders.

– The charging cables contain a certain amount of copper, but it should not be enough to attract actual copper thieves – however, it is still the most logical explanation, says Torben Niels Pedersen, Installation & Maintenance Manager at Clever.

Instead, he rhetorically asks TV Syd in the interview whether it might be 'people who don't like electric cars' who are behind it.

According to South East Jutland Police, between 1 January and 16 September this year, a total of six cases where the word 'charging cable' is included have been registered. However, this does not mean that all cases of copper theft from such places are included.
