New Hyundai gets Tesla technology from the factory

The Ioniq 5 XRT is Hyundai's take on a Volvo XC70 Cross Country. In other words, an everyday car disguised as an off-roader. Now the Hyundai gets Tesla technology.

The Ioniq 5 XRT is Hyundai's way of saying off-roader without really meaning it.

In other words, just as we have had the Volvo XC70 Cross Country, the Volkswagen Golf Country and the Audi A6 Allroad. However, none of those cars have the Tesla detail that the new Hyundai benefits from.

The brand itself describes the XRT as 'ideal for trips on other than tarmac'. But when it finally has asphalt under its wheels, the new Ioniq 5 is adapted to Tesla's standard in charging cables. The so-called NACS charging standard.

In other words, it will be able to be connected without problems to one of Tesla's many Supercharger stations, which even here in Denmark are open to all car brands.

– We designed the Ioniq 5 XRT to provide more protection, connectivity and functionality.

– The digital camouflage monster was created using our Ioniq pixels as building blocks. The matte black 18-inch wheels demonstrate the same Ioniq pixel theme while providing strength and refinement, said Brad Arnold, who has been in charge of exterior design at Hyundai Design North America, in a press release .

If, as a Dane, you think the Ioniq 5 XRT looks like a shoe, there is unfortunately bad news. The car is exclusively made for the American market.

It also only comes in one configuration. Namely with four-wheel drive and a battery pack of 84 kWh. The American importer does not say anything about how far the car can go on one charge.

On the other hand, Hyundai would like to say that the ground clearance has been raised by 2.3 centimeters. Whether it really has any significance for the owners who had to think of driving an Ioniq out on anything other than asphalt, we should not be able to say.
