BMW owners 'misuse' new function on purpose

BMW has included a small reminder of the environment in a number of the brand's new cars. Some owners take advantage of it in an alternative way.

It hardly saves the environment to remind BMW owners how gentle or the exact opposite their car is in relation to the environment.

Nevertheless, in a number of new cars, BMW has put a small 'digital reminder' into many new cars. The function should remind the owners of their carousel monster. And not least how much it pollutes.

Some of the BMW owners, however, see it as a sport to have the car remind them that their body makes the cars give out '100 percent more C02' than others in similar cars.

The function can, for example, be found in the otherwise very hardcore and very little environmentally conscious BMW M4 Competition M xDrive. Yes, that's a long name.

That's what Autoevolution writes.

Some BMW owners try to directly get the message 'You emit more CO2 than 100 percent of other BMW owners'.

Now the Boosted editors do not have to research motives into anything. And not at all in what the engineers in BMW's M division think – and maybe don't think. But it is reasonable to believe that at least one guy at the factory must have calculated it. This means that anything that can be abused will be abused.

One thing is what BMW is trying to push owners towards. Something else is what the brand actually does. Or trying to.

Last year, BMW launched a whole program of features that would be put behind a paywall in new cars. However, the idea received so much criticism that the brand from Munich soon after retracted the whole thing.
