New figures: Electric cars are parked more on the motorways

Experts believe that the electric cars, which according to figures from October are now more numerous than ever before, cause more noise on the motorways.

Experts now warn that the spread of electric cars can lead to a significant increase in traffic noise, especially from the motorways.

Although electric cars contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, the heavy trains also cause an increased level of noise, especially when moving at high speed on motorways and major traffic routes.

This is written by the media Ingenioren .

According to the media, it is crazy as soon as the speed exceeds 40 kilometers per hour. Because then it is no longer engine noise, but tire noise that dominates.

According to research, people who are exposed to traffic noise live shorter lives on average and more often experience serious health problems such as an increased risk of dementia and other diseases.

Motorway noise is considered particularly problematic, as the noise typically has a higher noise level than noise from city traffic. At a level of 58 dB, two to three times as many people along highways experience severe discomfort compared to people living on regular city roads.

In Denmark, around 750,000 homes, of which approximately 119,000 are located along motorways, are affected by road noise.

People living in these areas face more health-related challenges as more EVs are introduced. The expected increase in motorway noise from the heavier electric cars could mean more lost years of life and an increased number of sick days for those who live near the busiest routes.

In the past, i.a. the city council in Odense demanded that the speed not only be lowered in the Funen capital. But that the speed on the Funen motorway is also severely restricted. Read more about it here .

According to calculations, traffic congestion costs society at least DKK 4.4 billion per year, corresponding to around 0.2 percent of Denmark's gross domestic product. However, the amount can be much higher, Ramboll and the Cancer Society estimate, among others, in their report "Traffic congestion requires action."

Electric cars are therefore not noise-free solutions to all traffic-related problems. Still, the government insists that there must be one million electric cars on the roads by 2030 at the latest. The latest figures from October show that 6 out of 10 new cars now run on electricity.
