The Road Traffic Information Council (OFV) must now correct its own information that electric cars have surpassed gasoline cars in number in Norway.
It still doesn't fit when the Norwegian member association stated earlier this week that there are now more electric than gasoline cars in Norway.
It was on the basis of this figure that Norwegian and international media reported the story. Boosted also wrote that electric cars had surpassed gasoline cars in Norway.
But now OFV has withdrawn the statement after the industry website Bilnytt.no has entered the matter with a justified question. Namely, how OFV distinguishes between car types.
– In this case, we distinguish between pure gasoline and diesel cars. Hybrids of different types are grouped separately, OFV head Øyvind Solberg Thorsen tells Bilnytt.
However, Øyvind Solberg Thorsen admits that the wrong nuance – that is, where hybrid cars were considered electric cars – was initially stated in the press release.

According to Motor.no, the correct calculation of the car fleet in Norway is somewhat different than OFV initially claimed. In fact, electric cars are far behind both gasoline and diesel cars. And this even though new car sales are quite rightly dominated by electric cars. Read more about it here .
Things are actually not going so well for electric cars. At least not as well as most car brands had both believed and expected just a few years ago.
An example of this miscalculation can be found at both the European car manufacturers' interest group ACEA and at Volkswagen.
At ACEA, President Luca de Meo believes that the EU needs to postpone planned and much stricter emissions requirements if the European car industry is to remain a business. Motorists are not buying enough electric cars.
And with a single brand like Volkswagen, it is harder to sell than the management had thought. In this connection, so many investments have been made that Volkswagen is now a deeply indebted company. According to the finance director, the Germans owe a whopping 3,200 billion kroner.
The correct distribution of the Norwegian car fleet:
● 38.57 percent gasoline cars,
● 35.16 percent diesel cars
● 26.24 percent electric cars
