New figures from the National Police show that one in four crazy drivers from whom the police take a car do not have Danish citizenship.
The National Police has published new figures which show that more than one in four accused of crazy driving is a foreign citizen.
Since the Crazy Driving Act came into force on 1 April 2021, 3965 crazy driving charges have been laid, and of these, 1115 charges have been against foreign nationals.
A large proportion of the foreigners charged come from Eastern Europe. In particular, citizens from Poland, Lithuania and Romania top the list. During the period, 249 Polish citizens have been charged, which makes them the largest foreign group among the crazy drivers.
The figures also show that Danish citizens still account for the vast majority of charges. About three out of four people charged with reckless driving are Danish citizens.
However, the police have also charged 42 people from Syria and 40 from Turkey for violations of the strict legislation.

Crazy driving is a broad category that includes serious traffic offenses such as speeding at least 200 kilometers per hour, drink-driving with a blood alcohol level above 2.00 or negligent homicide under aggravating circumstances.
The police have the right to confiscate the choir car, regardless of who owns it, if it has been used for crazy rides.
A police officer from the National Police, Christian Berthelsen, explains that the police cannot always say whether the foreign nationals are resident in Denmark or not.
However, he mentions that some foreign visitors may not be aware that their car can be impounded for serious violations of the traffic law.
– I don't think that there are that many who familiarize themselves with the legislation when they come to a crossroads, he says to TV 2 .
According to the National Police's report, drunken driving is the most widespread form of reckless driving and accounts for two out of three charges since 2021. In addition, the figures show that nine out of ten people charged with reckless driving are men.
