Driver escaped speeding ticket – looks too much like his brother

The authorities can't tell who's who. A 77-year-old man escapes a speeding ticket because he looks too much like his brother.

A 77-year-old driver has been to the district court to be told that he will not face a speeding ticket.

Neither the district court nor the police can distinguish with one hundred percent certainty between the 77-year-old and his brother. The case against the driver therefore fell to the ground in court.

This is written by Kristianstadsbladet .

The speeding ticket was issued after the police believed that the 77-year-old man was speeding. But first to the police and later in the district court, the driver said that it was actually his brother behind the wheel. Or that it could at least be his brother.

During the trial in the district court, the 77-year-old said that the person in the photo from the police photo van could be anyone.

– It could have been my brother, who lives in Helsingborg, who stole the car. It could also have been any old man.

The incident took place at around 1pm on May 27th last year. A speed camera on a road in Sätaröd, a small town in Skåne, flashed the car and driver because they were going 66 km/h short in a 60 zone.

The image from the speed camera was subsequently sent to the police's ATK department in Kiruna.

Investigators noted that the vehicle was registered in a woman's name. However, police also believed that the woman's husband was behind the wheel.

Therefore, the police initially sent the ticket to the man. But he stated that he did not have a card in the car. The 77-year-old instead thought that it could be his brother. He also sent pictures of both himself and his brother to the police.

And so it's the pictures that have sent the authorities into a tailspin. Because you can't really see who's who. And the speeding ticket? Yes, the police have to crack that down.

This is certainly not the first time that police speed cameras have been 'wrong'. Back in January, a Swedish truck driver escaped a speeding ticket because the police could not document that he also had the hairstyle captured on the speed camera. Read more about it here .
