Towards the end of 2025, Danish SAS customers will be able to fly and use Elon Musk's internet, Starlink, at the same time.
The Danish airline SAS has entered into an agreement with the internet provider Starlink, which is owned and founded by Elon Musk.
Starlink, part of Elon Musk's SpaceX, will provide internet access to SAS passengers during their flights. The agreement was announced Monday in a press release from SAS.
Starlink is the first and largest constellation of satellites to provide internet coverage to over 100 countries. The company has already signed agreements with other airlines, including US carrier United Airlines, to implement its Wi-Fi solution.
According to Paul Verhagen, commercial director at SAS, the agreement with Starlink will ensure a stable and problem-free internet connection for passengers, regardless of where they fly.
– Whether they are flying across the Atlantic or the North Sea, our passengers can now count on a connection that is as stable and seamless as it is fast, says Paul Verhagen.
The rollout of Starlink internet on SAS's fleet will start towards the end of 2025. After that, passengers can expect to receive free access to the internet during their flights.
Jason Fritch, deputy director of Starlink's sales department, expresses his satisfaction with the agreement in the press release.
– We are especially proud that Starlink can offer passengers internet connectivity that is as good – if not better – than the connection they have at home, says Jason Fritch.
He emphasizes that Starlink can provide a stable connection no matter where the aircraft is located, even over areas such as the Atlantic and the North Sea, which have traditionally been challenging for internet connections.
Both SAS and United Airlines expect to offer Starlink's internet solution on all their aircraft. For United Airlines, the solution is expected to be available to customers during the spring, according to an article from CNN in early January.
With Starlink on board, SAS hopes to improve the customer experience and give passengers the opportunity to work, stream and stay connected while flying.
