Crazy technology makes the new Porsche 911 faster than electric cars

Electric cars are not necessarily the only right thing if acceleration is what you are after. In that context, the first 911 hybrid from Porsche is a monster.

Porsche's new 911 hybrid goes from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds. And it is – despite the weight from the internal combustion engine – faster than many pure electric cars.

The Carrera GTS is the first version of the new 911 to receive hybrid technology. In any case, this is the car that Porsche is ready with first.

The car has two battery packs developed in collaboration with Rimac, which Porsche, due to a scuttled deal with Bugatti in 2021, partially owns. And the other way around.

Well, back to the car. The two electric motors are located respectively on the gearbox and inside the turbo itself on the new 3.6-litre boxer engine. The latter means that the turbos have charge pressure immediately.

There is also 150 newton meters to give already at idle. The entire hybrid package is extremely compact, and in total the Carrera GTS weighs 50 kilos compared to the current model, which will soon be its predecessor.

In total, the car delivers 541 horsepower and a torque of 610 newton meters. The 3.6-litre, 6-cylinder boxer has grown by 0.6-litre displacement and can actually move the car quite efficiently on its own. The petrol engine itself produces 485 horsepower.

In comparison, the current Carrera GTS, which has to make do with a 3-liter engine, offers 481 horsepower.

Porsche will not say anything about exactly how fast the new GTS Hybrid is. Only that 0 to 100 km/h is over in 'less than 3 seconds'.

Prices in Denmark start at DKK 2,454,900 for the 911 Carrera and DKK 3,289,900 for the 911 Carrera GTS. The models can be experienced at Porsche Center Aarhus and Porsche Center Copenhagen in autumn 2024.
