Costs DKK 10,000 in stalls – but every other driver does it

More than half of young drivers are unable to put their mobile phones down when driving, a new survey shows.

Chor car when you chore car.

Under that slogan, the Danish authorities in particular have tried in recent years to get drivers to concentrate more on the road than anything else when they are behind the wheel.

But concentration is a problem. And especially among the young. In fact, a new Norwegian survey shows that more than half of young drivers are unable to put their mobile phone down.

In the survey conducted by Trygg Trafik, 54 percent of young drivers say that they use their mobile phone hand-held while driving.

It creates inattention on the roads, and inattention is one of the main reasons when fatal accidents occur both at home and in other countries.

– Mobile phones are unfortunately one of the reasons why – it is not possible to combine the use of a phone with safe driving on the road, even for young people, says technical director of Trygg Trafikk Tanja Loftsgarden.

Similar to the rules here at home, it is also illegal in Norway to use the phone hand-held while driving a car. But at least in Norway, the rules are old and imprecise. That is why Tanja Loftsgarden is now calling for clearer rules in this area.

In Denmark, it costs DKK 2,000 in booths and a cut in the choir card to be caught with a mobile phone in hand or behind the wheel. In Norway last year the penalty was raised to 10,000 kroner. Read more about it here .
