China finds 2,800-kilometer-long lithium deposit

It's a crucial component of batteries for electric cars. And now the Chinese have found a lithium deposit that's an insane 2,800 kilometers long.

China has made a significant discovery of lithium in the form of a 2,800-kilometer-long belt in the western part of the country. This discovery has the potential to change the global lithium supply and strengthen China's position in the market for electric vehicles and battery technology.

The newly discovered lithium belt contains an estimated 6.5 million tons of confirmed lithium reserves, with a potential of over 30 million tons.

This is reported by the Global Times .

This discovery increases China's share of global lithium reserves from 6 percent to 16.5 percent, placing the country as the second largest holder of lithium after Chile.

The discovery of the lithium belt is expected to have a significant impact on the production of batteries for electric vehicles. With access to a larger amount of lithium, China can potentially produce batteries at lower costs and increase its competitiveness in the global market.

In addition to the discovery of the lithium belt, China has also made progress in the extraction of lithium from mica. This technology has improved the efficiency and profitability of extracting lithium from mica resources, leading to an additional 10 million tons of confirmed lithium reserves.

Lithium is a critical component in batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems. The increased access to lithium is expected to strengthen China's position as a leading producer of lithium batteries and related technologies.

China's focus on lithium production and technology is part of the country's strategy to promote the development of electric vehicles and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

With the new lithium discoveries and technological advances, China is well positioned to play a central role in the global transition to sustainable energy.

The country has invested heavily in research and development in battery technology. As recently as November last year, China was able to record that it supplies almost half of all electric cars in the world. Read more about it here .

The discovery of the lithium belt and advances in lithium extraction are important steps towards achieving these goals.

China's growing dominance in lithium production and battery technology could potentially have a significant impact on the global automotive and energy sectors.

It is likely that China's increased access to lithium will lead to lower prices for electric cars and batteries, which could accelerate the global transition to sustainable transportation.
