Scandinavian car sales generally went into reverse in the month of March. Denmark nevertheless fared significantly better than its neighbours, a new report shows.
Sales of brand new cars generally declined throughout Scandinavia. In Denmark, however, the car dealers were able to salvage some of the glory.
Because although there has been a decline in new cars at home, the Danish car dealers experienced the smallest loss of new customers and thus new cars on the roads.
This is shown by a new report from De Danske Bilimportorer.
Because while car sales in Sweden fell by 19.7 percent, and in Norway plummeted by 49.7 percent compared to March last year, Denmark got through with a drop of just 6 percent in the same period.

– In March, Scandinavian car sales were generally characterized by decline, but with large differences between the countries.
– While car sales fell significantly in both Sweden and Norway, Danish car sales were at a stable level compared to last year_,_ says Mads Rorvig, CEO of De Danske Bilimportorer.
Enthusiasm for electric cars has also decreased. That is, apart from the Norwegians, who already before new diesel and petrol cars are banned on 1 January 2025 – buy new electric cars in 89.3 percent of all cases.
Conversely, the Danes have now overtaken the Swedes when it comes to the share of new electric cars. But this is partly due to Danes buying more electric cars now than in March 2023.
