It's over – France doesn't build these cars anymore

Once upon a time, sedan models in the model programs of French car brands could not be kicked out. Now there isn't a single one.

Some cars disappear over time. Some believe, for example, that the combustion engine's days are numbered.

We are not that far yet. If that ever happens. But one thing is already real – namely that no French car brand builds sedan models anymore.

The sister brands Peugeot and DS were the last with sedan models in the programs. But now both models – Peugeot 508 and DS 9 respectively – are a thing of the past.

The current Peugeot 508 received a lot of praise in the press when it came out in 2018. But it was not enough to achieve the same success as its predecessors with motorists.

The DS 9 was presented as the flagship for the entire French car industry. But the model never really caught on. And now, following announcements from Stellantis' chief executive, there is speculation as to whether DS as a car brand should be closed. Read more about it here.

All of last year, only 1,139 copies of the DS 9 were sold, and the vast majority of them are in China.

Here at home, there is also a long way between the sedan models. In fact, brands such as Mercedes and BMW are now among the only ones to keep the sedan shapes. And it's not exactly something that resonates in the sales charts. SUVs such as the Volkswagen ID.4 and Tesla Model Y dominate here.
