Media: The V8 engine makes a comeback in the Mercedes C63 AMG

Mercedes has regretted it. The AMG department now says that a new V8 engine is on the way. However, they won't say that it's for the next C63 AMG.

The story of Mercedes and the V8 engine in the C63 AMG is a tale that won't die. And now several media outlets believe they know it's good enough.

The V8 engine makes a comeback in the top model of the C-Class.

This is what Autocar writes.

It has previously been reported that Mercedes had lost faith and was on its way back with a C63 with a V8 engine. However, the people from Affalterbach put a stop to this story.

But now it has resurfaced. And now the AMG department would like to confirm that a new V8 engine is on the way. However, they won't say that it is specifically on its way to the C63.

– We can confirm that AMG is developing a new V8 engine. But we ask you to understand that we cannot comment on the more specific plan, says AMG spokesperson Catrin Dunz-Ludwig in a comment to Motor1.

On the other hand, there are many indications that the performance sedan is facing a major facelift as early as next year. A facelift so extensive that the 2-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine is on its way out.

And an Austrian tuner has already confirmed that there is room for a V8 engine between the front wheels. Read more about it here.

The new engine is reportedly not so new that AMG is starting from scratch. Instead, the Germans are building on the 4-liter V8 with biturbo. To keep the engine within various emission standards, the AMG people are working on a hybrid setup.

Motor1 believes that the people in Affalterbach may, however, choose to throw out an existing plug-in setup and instead go with a regular, cordless hybrid package.

That said, Mercedes has admitted that it has actually lost customers by going from 8 to 4 cylinders. Customers have disappeared to Audi and BMW, which still have more cylinders to offer. In fact, BMW has sworn that both the straight-six and the V8 engine are here to stay.

Mercedes is left with almost empty order books at home in Germany. In fact, dealers say that a C63 with 4 cylinders is practically impossible to sell. Yet AMG bosses have insisted that 'nobody buys a C63 for the engine'.
