Tesla Model S loses 67 percent of its value in 2 years

Tesla's top model, the Model S Plaid, is among the electric cars that are currently plummeting in value. Kyle Conner can sign for that. His car has lost 67 percent value over 2 years.

After two years of ownership of his Tesla Model S Plaid, with a short distance of 59,000 kilometers, Kyle has experienced a significant loss in value of his electric car.

The Tesla Model S Plaid, known for its impressive performance and 1020 horsepower, was originally purchased in 2022 for 970,000 Danish kroner.

Now, two years later, the car's market value has dropped considerably. A recent assessment by Tesla estimates a current value of $46,400, equivalent to around half a million Danish kroner, which means that the car has lost 67 percent of its original value.

According to InsideEVs, citing Kyle Conner's own post on X about the loss in value, there are several explanations for the drastic loss in value. One of the main reasons is a significant price drop for the new Tesla Model S Plaid since 2022, where the new price of the top model has fallen by more than DKK 500,000. Something that cannot avoid spilling over into the used market.

Concrete figures show that the car has lost 317,000 Danish kroner in just two years. The loss in value thus corresponds to around SEK 166 per short mile, which regardless of the starting point is severe.

However, Kyle Conner is not immediately influenced by all the money he has already had to wave goodbye to. He has already expanded his collection of cars with a Tesla Cybertruck.

In addition to Tesla, he also owns cars such as Polestar 1 and Rivian R1T – cars that run entirely or partially on electricity. At the moment, therefore, it does not appear that he has any plans to part with his Model S Plaid.

In summary, the loss in value on Kyle's Tesla looks like this:

  • Model : Tesla Model S Plaid
  • Purchase price in 2022 : Approximately DKK 970,000.
  • The car is currently valued at : 46,400 dollars (around 317,000 kroner)
  • Short kilometers : 59,000
  • Loss of value per kilometer : DKK 11.07 – or 67 percent of the new price.

This example of depreciation shows how price drops on new electric cars can quickly affect the value of existing models.
