1.6 million fake Mercedes parts found during raid

Mercedes warns motorists against counterfeit factory original parts which are currently in circulation. 1.6 million parts have already been found.

During raids last year, more than 1.6 million counterfeit genuine Mercedes parts were found, but the car brand is not sure that everything has been found.

That is why we are now warning that several of these parts may be in circulation. The many counterfeits have been found in a total of 740 raids. In this connection, more than 140,000 ads and offers for the parts, which therefore look as if they come from Mercedes, have been removed.

Among the car parts that have been seized are counterfeit brake components, rims, steering gear and various suspensions.

This is what the Mercedes-Benz Group writes in a press release .

According to Mercedes, the parts can be dangerous because they do not meet OEM/OE (factory/factory supplier) standards, which approved Mercedes parts must otherwise.

– The counterfeiting industry generates huge margins and has the same structure as organized crime. It endangers road safety and there is no quality control, says Renata Jungo Brüngger, Mercedes board member responsible for integrity and sustainability.

So it is not about universal parts that are completely legal, but about car parts that are manufactured in such a way that it looks as if they come directly from Mercedes. All this, however, without the factory having anything to do with the parts.

Mercedes are not the only ones cracking down on fakes. Ferrari is both known and notorious for doing the same. It was not long ago that the brand from Maranello could reveal a catch of whole cars, which have now been destroyed. Read more about it here .
