Washington will punish certain drivers forever

If drivers repeatedly exceed the speed limit, they must be punished forever. Nor must they be able to corral all cars, say the politicians in the US capital.

The politicians in the US capital Washington DC have just adopted a package of laws that will drastically change the traffic picture in the city.

The hardest thing to do is go beyond the drivers who have difficulty with speed limits. The new law means that the city government gets the right to pursue certain motorists forever.

The Washington Post writes that.

The law means that motorists who repeatedly blow the speed limit, or are convicted of really serious speeding offences, can be forced to drive around with a speed limiter. It will also chatter if drivers try to speed anyway.

And that forever. Drivers who are sentenced to that type of punishment must never again drive a car without that type of speed limiter.

The drivers even have to pay themselves to be monitored. For the fourth time, the speed limit, which otherwise only applies for one year at a time, is permanently set in the 'criminal's' car.

And there is no way around it. For motorists who are convicted four times of serious speeding offences, they must drive around with the equipment forever. At least if they want to keep chomping at the bit in Washington DC

Right now, the law only needs to be approved by the city's mayor and the highest legislative assembly in the country – Congress.

The speed limiter, which may now end up in several cars in Washington DC, is similar to the one already found in all new cars in Europe. Except that it is impossible to turn off. Read more about it here .
