ADAC, the German answer to FDM, is now warning against a wide range of fashionable mandrel handles on cars. They can be dangerous, it says.
Tesla has them.
Since then, both BMW, Mercedes and a large number of other car brands have followed suit. Indeed, so is Lamborghini.
We are obviously talking about mandrel handles that go together with the car's mandrels and must be touched or pressed to 'pop' out.

But now ADAC, the Germans' answer to FDM, is warning against this kind of mandrel handle. Because even if it looks smart, they can be associated with danger and trouble, especially in the event of accidents.

For safety reasons, ADAC therefore recommends that the handles, which are often controlled by electronics, are always equipped with a mechanical release.
In this way, the cars can always be opened, even if the electronics in the car fail. According to ADAC, rescuers have no chance of getting into a car with these door handles if the car is so badly damaged that the doors have become stuck.
However, a mechanical mandrel grip will be able to change that. Even if a car has crashed and ended up on the roof, i.e. with the wheels in the air, it says.
In general, however, ADAC always recommends that motorists familiarize themselves thoroughly with how their cars work – also when it comes to the 'smart devices' – before the trip goes out into traffic.
Although Teslas are indeed equipped with mechanical controls inside the cabin, there is not much to do from the outside. And the car brand has long received a lot of criticism for that. Read more about it here .
