Thief shortly over – dead from stealing Ford catalytic converter

Catalysts are sought after by criminals because they contain particularly valuable metals. However, one thief in California paid the ultimate price for his misdeed.

A man has died after trying to remove the catalytic converter from a Ford Excursion that was parked in the city of Palmdale, which is located in southern California.

A woman was sleeping in the car, but she was awakened by the noises that the thief could not suppress as he tried to unscrew the catalytic converter.

This is what AutoBlog writes.

– She woke up to the noises, started the car, put it in reverse and felt a bump, as if she was short of something.

– She stopped immediately, got out and immediately called 911 when she saw what had happened, the police say about the incident.

But the man's life could not be saved. The thief later died of his injuries in hospital. However, he was not alone.

It turned out that he had three other men with him on the robbery. All three were arrested later. They were actually sitting in a car which stopped in the immediate vicinity of the big Ford.

It is not known if the police in Palmdale chose to charge the woman with anything. But unfortunately there are places in the USA where catalytic converter thefts are almost part of the order of the day.

In fact, it is such a big problem that even the police have fallen victim to this kind of theft. Back in 2022, one or more thieves managed to get away with the catalytic converters from several police cars.

The cars were even parked right outside a police station, which houses a local branch of the special forces SWAT. Read more about it here .
