There is a temporary discount on the way to 694,000 Danish motorists

The country's diesel car owners can look forward to a relaxation of the so-called equalization tax. But only for two years, because it returns to the starting point.

It will be more expensive to fill up with diesel from the new year.

Specifically, the SVM government adds 50 øre on top of the price per litres. This makes diesel more expensive for the second time in just one year.

Exactly the same thing happened because of a now 15-year-old agreement, namely this year as well. Read more about it here. However, the government is making the 694,000 Danish diesel drivers a bit fashionable.

This is what the Ministry of Taxation writes in a press release .

In the latest agreement, which makes diesel more expensive at home, the so-called equalization tax has also been made slightly smaller. Diesel owners pay the tax because the fuel is not subject to the same taxes as petrol.

However, the tax relief is only temporary. The equalization tax will be lowered in 2025 and 2026, because diesel car owners must pay the same high rate again in 2027.

All in all, it is only a vanishingly small tax discount. Because over the course of the two years, the government will not give up more than DKK 300 million.

And if you compare that amount with how much the diesel owners pay in equalization tax every six months, the tax relief is quite modest.

And it is possible that in reality there is no tax reduction at all. Because at the same time as the smaller equalization tax, the government will raise the periodic taxes towards 2026. Read more about it here .
