The Russians are furious – 9 out of 10 new cars in the country are Chinese

After sanctions from the EU, Western car brands have largely fled Russia. That leaves the Russians with Chinese cars, something they are furious about.

China has been important to Russia ever since Putin invaded Ukraine more than two years ago. And it can be seen on the Russian roads.

This is what CarNews China writes.

Specifically, the figures reveal that as many as nine out of ten new cars in Russia either come from China or are produced under license from there.

And the Russians are pretty tired of that. Already in March last year, the Russians complained that in the vast majority of cases they must choose a Chinese car if it is to be new.

In fact, there is great opposition both among Russian consumers and car dealers to the Chinese brands, which, according to Russians whom the news agency Reuters has spoken to, 'are not of the same quality as the European cars'.

The media also quotes a Russian as saying that the difference between the Chinese cars and cars from the West is 'massive'.

However, Chinese brands cannot beat the Russians' own car brand, Lada, which returned to Russian hands after Renault sold the brand for just one Russian ruble. This corresponds to only 0.075 Danish kroner.

With 39,908 cars sold, Lada is in absolute first place in the month of March. After this, however, the top 10 list overflows with Chinese brands. It has gone best for Haval, which has sold 16,045 cars in Russia in the same period.

However, it is not only in Russia that things are progressing for the Chinese. BYD, which is also in Denmark, is currently fighting with Tesla over who sells the absolute most electric cars.

And that is not only in Russia, but on the global market. After a disappointing financial report, Tesla could note that it has overtaken BYD again. Read more about it here .
