The Motor Authority in Broler: Motorists do NOT have to pay tax

After an update, the Motor Agency has found an error in the Motor Register. It may have gone beyond motorists who pay gross tax.

After an update of the Motor Register, which took place on 25 June 2024, an error may have crept into the system, says the Motor Authority.

In concrete terms, the error can cause motorists who pay a large toll to be charged incorrectly. For the same reason, the Danish Motor Agency urges that motorists do not pay the charge, charges on green tax that are formed in the period from 26 June to 11 July 2024.

This is stated by the Motorstyrelsen .

According to the agency, the error has already been corrected with an update from 11 July 2024. But now you have to start finding the choirs and their owners who may be affected by the error.

The authority says that these are choir uniforms that:

  • have been for a registration inspection in the period 26 June to 11 July 2024 – both days inclusive
  • are typically registered in the period 1997-2019
  • is registered in the Motor Register with a fuel consumption calculated as km/l
  • is not registered with a measuring standard in the Motor Register

However, the Danish Motor Agency does not state what happens if owners of motor coaches have paid an erroneous charge. Just as it is not clear from the agency's text whether motorists will receive any compensation.

The Danish Motor Agency can at most swing up to apologize for the error. Incidentally, this is not the first time that the Motor Authority has made a mistake. In 2017, an error in the systems meant that the owners of several used imported cars did not pay tax at all.

And in the period between 2012 and 2019, the Motor Authority did not send out any reminders at all to people who had not paid periodic tax on time. The authorities did nothing about motorists who owed weight tax or green tax. Well, not because the error was discovered in June 2019.
