The Norwegian Transport Agency believes that a statutory requirement for winter tires is irrelevant in Denmark. But it is vertically incorrect, believes Continental Denmark's director Georg Nielsen.
It is completely wrong when the Swedish Transport Agency says that it does not make sense to have a legal requirement for winter tires in Denmark.
At least if you ask the director of Continental Dæk Danmark Georg Nielsen. He couldn't disagree more with the statements in a new hearing from the Swedish Transport Agency.
– The Danish Transport Agency has had that attitude for years. Unfortunately. And to the great surprise of most people who work professionally with tyres, road safety and accessibility.
– This is equivalent to arguing that it was not necessary to legislate on seat belts, says the director in a press release.

Georg Nielsen points to an investigation from the Danish tire industry. It shows that 80 percent of Danish drivers drive on the tires that were created for the season. But that leaves almost half a million cars with 'the wrong tyres', Continental Denmark's director believes.
Georg Nielsen admits, however, that a possible law on winter tires in Denmark will not solve all problems. There will be days of the year when, regardless of tire choice, it is difficult to get there.
– For example, there will be days in the course of a winter when even caterpillars will find it difficult to get there. And drivers who bark with their heads under their arms, we can't legislate against either, says Georg Nielsen.
However, the director believes that the Norwegian Transport Agency directly misleads motorists with recommendations that endanger road safety when the agency does not want to recommend a law on winter tyres.
On the other hand, the Norwegian Transport Agency writes in the hearing response that 'there is no evidence that winter tires will have a 'significant impact on accessibility and safety'.
The board refers to figures from the Road Directorate, which show that there are generally no more accidents on Danish roads in winter compared to the rest of the year.
