The Danish Parliament will give politicians an illegal traffic allowance

For 12 years, the elected officials in Christiansborg have received an illegal traffic allowance. A majority will now do so legally with 12 years' retroactive effect.

For 12 years, members of the Norwegian Parliament have received tax-free road allowances, although this has not had legal authority.

The amount that the politicians have avoided paying tax on amounts to approximately five million kroner.

This is written by Ekstra Bladet .

According to the rules, the corslen should have been taxed, but this has not happened. The Danish Parliament has acknowledged the mistake and confirmed that these are actually payments that lack a legal basis, also called "unauthorized payments."

To rectify this situation, a group of politicians has put forward a bill to legalize the tax-free allowance, with a retroactive effect of a full 12 years.

The bill was tabled on October 10 and aims to ensure that politicians can keep the money they have received tax-free during this period.

Among the politicians behind the proposal are the Speaker of the Danish Parliament Soren Gade (V), as well as Karina Adsbol (DD), Leif Lahn Jensen (S), Karsten Honge (SF) and Lars-Christian Brask (LA).

The bill must give politicians the right to a tax-free travel allowance for their transport in office, even though there was originally no authority in the law for this practice.

The proposal has received criticism, especially from tax expert Lars Krull, who says to TV2: "This smells so insanely bad."

He points out that ordinary citizens are responsible for understanding and complying with tax laws, and if they make mistakes, they have to pay when the mistake is discovered. Krull believes that the politicians' attempt to avoid payment by changing the rules for themselves appears hypocritical.

The Danish Parliament has indicated that the current practice of tax-free traffic compensation is not in accordance with current legislation, but if the new bill is passed, the politicians will not be met with a demand for repayment of the amounts paid.
