Tesla Model Y has already dropped 75,000 kroner in price

It's brand new. But in the US, the facelifted Tesla Model Y has already been reduced by 75,000 kroner. However, customers will have to live with fewer features.

Tesla's popular electric car, the Model Y Long Range AWD, replaces the Launch Series. The new variant costs significantly less but loses the standard FSD.

Tesla has adjusted the model range for its popular electric car, the Model Y. The previous variant, known as the Launch Series, has been discontinued. It is being replaced by a new base model, the Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD). This means a significantly lower starting price for the car.

The new Model Y Long Range AWD starts at approximately 347,622 Danish kroner in the United States.

This includes delivery costs in the US market. The price is around 75,900 Danish kroner less than the discontinued Launch Edition.

However, the lower price also means that some features have changed. Full Self-Draining (FSD), which was standard on the Launch Series, is no longer included from the start. It has now become an option for buyers.

If you want the FSD package, you have to pay extra. The option now costs an amount equivalent to approximately 55,200 Danish kroner. This brings the total price up if you want the advanced driver assistance.

Other options are also available at an additional cost. A towbar can be added for approximately 6,900 Danish kroner extra. With it installed, the Model Y can tow up to 1,588 kg.

Tesla Model Y: Equipment and options

The standard color of the new base model is black. If you want a different color, it costs extra. The additional price for a different paint job is between approximately 6,900 and 13,800 Danish kroner, depending on the color chosen.

Buyers can choose between two different wheel sizes. Standard are 19-inch "Crossflow" rims. These rims come with all-season tires.

With the standard 19-inch wheels, Tesla promises a range of up to 526 kilometers. This figure is based on the American EPA measurement method. The European WLTP range may differ.

It is possible to upgrade to larger 20-inch rims. This gives the car a different visual expression. However, choosing the larger rims negatively affects the car's range.

If you choose the 20-inch wheels, the estimated range drops. It is then stated at 488 kilometers according to the EPA standard.

More price drops may be on the way for customers

There is also a slight difference in performance. The new Model Y Long Range AWD is a bit slower in acceleration than the discontinued Launch Series. The car accelerates from 0 to approximately 96 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.6 seconds.

That's half a second slower than the Launch Series variant. Tesla hasn't specified the reason for the reduced acceleration. It's not known whether it's due to less engine power or software changes.

In the US market, there is another aspect to consider. The Model Y still qualifies for a federal tax credit of $7,500. This corresponds to approximately 51,750 Danish kroner. This significantly reduces the real purchase price for qualified US buyers.

The price adjustment comes at a time when Tesla is experiencing a decline in sales. The automaker's share price has also been under pressure. Some analysts point to Elon Musk's political statements as a contributing factor.

Tesla has previously used price cuts to increase sales volume, a strategy that has previously angered existing owners, whose cars' resale value has declined as a result of lower new prices.

It is not inconceivable that Tesla will adjust prices again to stimulate demand. The future will tell whether the new, lower price for the Model Y Long Range AWD is enough to turn around sales trends.
