Synthetic gasoline is a waste of energy, says Volkswagen

Contrary to Porsche, Volkswagen does not believe that synthetic gasoline makes sense in passenger cars. The brand from Wolfsburg thus only believes in the electric car.

If Volkswagen were the only car brand on the market, before too long drivers would only drive around in electric cars.

Volkswagen simply won't build anything else. The car brand, which has cheated with several million diesel cars, is in such a hurry to get away from the fossil car that political support is demanded for it. Read more about it here .

And now Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer says that synthetic fuel does not make sense in passenger cars.

That's what Business Insider writes.

Thomas Schäfer made the announcement during one of Volkswagen's own 'Let's talk' events. In fact, Thomas Schäfer was told directly that synthetic fuel is a waste of energy.

He believes that one should prioritize the direct use of the world's limited resources instead of first spending time and energy on transforming them into something else. So like synthetic gasoline.

The VW director thinks the same about hydrogen cars. They make no sense either. At least not as passenger cars. Thomas Schäfer concedes one thing, however.

In air and ship traffic, for example, the electric motor may prove to be insufficient or downright impractical. And so the synthetic fuel may still have its justification.

However, the message from the VW boss contrasts with the opinion of several other car brands. In fact, one does not need to move further than internally around the Volkswagen group to find a different opinion.

Since December 2022, Porsche has been producing synthetic fuel at a factory in Chile. There are also plans for so-called e-fuel factories in Australia and the USA.

For the same reason, Porsche has said that the brand will spend additional millions of euros on the technology behind synthetic gasoline. Read more about it here .
