Sweden will ban drivers from using license plate displays

It can be used by criminals. Therefore, Sweden's Ministry of Justice will now have a law amendment that limits the public's access to number plate searches, through.

In the Swedish number plate register you can see much more than in the Danish one. But it will soon be over.

The Swedish Minister of Justice wants to have implemented a change in the law that severely limits the public's access to the motor register.

As it is right now, anyone and everyone who has seen or sees a Swedish number plate can look up the current owner's name and address freely and freely. You can also see how many previous owners the car has had. And where these have lived.

But it must be over now. This is what the Ministry of Justice believes after a working group has drawn up a number of recommendations to 'protect' motorists' privacy. The Swedish government, for example, thinks that it is 'inappropriate' that anyone and everyone can see which cars belong to the police.

– Criminals have been able to use it to map robbery victims and foreign powers can also gain access to sensitive information, says Anders Ydstedt, chairman of the Royal Automobile Club's expert council.

Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer supports tightening access to the motor register. He will generally look at what information must be accessible in the register.

– It is against this background that the government saw a need to revise the rules for search services that publish personal data online, says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer.

Here at home, it is – at least for the public – only possible to see the full name of a car's owner if there is a debt also known as a lien on the car.
