Stop building electric cars only – Bentley's new V8s have 750 hp

With the new plug-in hybrid, a street car from Bentley has never had so much horsepower. On the other hand, the big W12 engine is on its way out.

Bentley's trademark in the form of the big W12 engine is on its way out.

But the replacement is already ready. Almost then. This week, the English brand VAG presented a plug-in hybrid with 8 cylinders. The brand's most powerful engine to date.

That is, in a street car. Back in March, it emerged that Bentley is among the brands that have now regretted the goal of only building electric cars in 2030.

– Because of everything that is happening around us, we will invest more in the hybrid car. We expected sales to decline in 2028, 2029 and 2030, said then-director Adrian Hallmark in an interview with Autocar.

The car brand's decision means that the hybrid engine will enter the next decade. Something that was not the plan until very recently.

And now the first step on that path is ready. Conversely, it is also some big shoes that the smaller V8 has to fill.

Because when it is placed in a car, it will also mean goodbye to the brand's trademark – the 6.0-litre W12 engine. Something the English have had on the program since 2003.

Other details about Bentley's new engine are small. But the kinship with the rest of the VAG group means that we can safely count on it being a further development of the 4-litre V8s that are already in cars such as the Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne and Audi RS Q8.

An engine Lamborghini otherwise is expected to use once more when they unveil the successor to the V10 model Huracan to the outside world in August.

Back at Bentley, they are currently testing synthetic fuels. In fact, the English have already proven that this sort of thing works flawlessly. Read more about it here .
