So many drivers will ditch the electric car next time

Not everyone is crazy about electric cars. Not even in Norway, where nine out of ten new cars run solely on electricity, according to NAF. The Norwegian answer to FDM.

Electric cars dominate Norwegian car sales, but the Norwegians are not meeting their goal of 100 percent electric cars by 2025. In fact, they are having to retract figures on electric cars. Read more about it here .

Electric cars accounted for 9 out of 10 new cars on Norwegian roads in 2024. The share is expected to increase further.

– The last months of last year show that new car buyers are largely buying electric cars. We believe this will continue, and that around 95 percent of car buyers will choose an electric car by 2025.

– Although it is primarily electric cars that are sold, it is still possible to acquire new cars with a combustion engine.

– However, the supply of these is decreasing. The majority of car buyers choose used cars, where the selection of cars with combustion engines will be large in the coming years, says Nils Sodal, senior communications advisor at NAF.

However, many drivers are still unsure whether their next car should be an electric car.

A recent survey from NAF shows that not even half of those surveyed (46 percent) are sure that their next car will be an electric car.

– This shows that there are still many who need to be convinced about the transition to emission-free cars, says Sodal.

There is a high level of satisfaction among current electric car owners. 77 percent of those who own an electric car today responded in the survey that they would choose an electric car again next time.

24 percent are unsure or inclined to choose something other than an electric car.

7 percent respond that they will definitely choose something other than an electric car next time.

The situation is different among drivers who do not own an electric car. Only 29 percent of these are convinced that their next car will be an electric car.

31 percent of those who do not own an electric car do not want one. The remaining, approximately 40 percent, are unsure.

– Those who have already made the leap to electric cars will largely not return to cars with gasoline or diesel engines. But some will still need cars other than electric cars, Sodal concludes.

Electric cars are here to stay in the Norwegian car market, but there is still a group of drivers who are abandoning electric cars and sticking with traditional fuels or considering other alternatives.
