Schumacher: Hamilton could be finished at Ferrari

Ralf Schumacher casts doubt on Lewis Hamilton's future at Ferrari. The seven-time F1 world champion is struggling with the car and speculation about an early exit is growing.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has had a difficult start at Ferrari.

Now F1 profile Ralf Schumacher suggests that the Briton may leave Ferrari as early as this season. Hamilton is clearly struggling with the new car.

– He simply can't handle the car, says Ralf Schumacher in the podcast Backstage Boxengasse from Sky Sports Germany.

Schumacher elaborates on his concerns about Hamilton in the podcast Backstage Boxengasse .

– We talk a lot about Lando Norris, but it's almost worse with him (Hamilton, ed.). You can see it, he's really broken down, says Schumacher.

Lewis Hamilton turns 40 this year. His first stint at Ferrari has not lived up to expectations. His move from Mercedes to the Italian team has been the subject of much scrutiny.

However, the results have been lacking so far. Hamilton has struggled with the car's settings since the start of the season.

After finishing seventh in Jeddah, Hamilton spoke out. Teammate Charles Leclerc finished on the podium in the same lap. Hamilton acknowledged that the problem was not just with the car.

Hamilton's battle with Ferrari's car

– It's obvious the car can do third place. Charles did a fantastic job today so… I can't blame him, said Hamilton after the race in Saudi Arabia.

You don't have to have seen much of the 2025 season to realize that it is difficult for the seven-time world champion to follow.

However, there have been a few positive moments for Hamilton during the season. For example, he won the sprint race in China.

However, the positive results have been more like individual performances. A stable upward form curve is not yet visible.

Ralf Schumacher believes it is uncertain whether Hamilton will even complete the season at Ferrari. The former driver draws on his own experiences.

Motivation and future prospects

– I know from my own experience: If it continues like this, it's not fun anymore, says Schumacher. He continues:

– Then you wake up one morning and ask yourself: "Why am I doing this? I'm not having fun anymore, I can't handle it anymore. I'm getting in the way of my team."

According to Schumacher, there is a risk that Hamilton will lose motivation in the entire Formula 1 circus. This could happen if the results do not improve soon.

Despite the big change and the high expectations, Hamilton's time at Ferrari may be short. It will be shorter than many had imagined.

Lewis Hamilton is currently seventh in the Drivers' Championship, having collected 31 points so far this season.

The sport always offers drama and unexpected twists. Danish Kevin Magnussen's connection to Formula 1 is also hanging by a very thin thread. Read more about it here .
